Pain occurs when the circulation is blocked in the meridians. This can happen because of chronic tension (due to stress, repetitive use or improper postural alignment); it can also be caused by trauma or structural issues (bone and cartlidge). I’ve found that Acupuncture, along with manual manipulation (massage, myofacial release, CranioSacral therapy, stretching), can almost always eliminate pain by releasing the tension and restoring proper circulation. The number of treatments needed varies widely, based on several factors including: how long the patient has been in pain; the patient’s general state of health; how severe the structural issues are, if any. Generally tri- or bi-weekly treatments are best when treating musculo-skeletal issues; however, with some patients who have a good exercise and stretching routine in place, I’ve also had success with weekly treatments.
